Marine Conservation Society - Good Beach Guide 2010

A report from the MCS released in May 2010 lists beaches and the results of their water quality test. In line with their general findings on British beaches, more Pembrokeshire beaches were upgraded than downgraded.

Improved beaches were: Abereiddy Bay, Amroth, Broadhaven, Gelliswick, Little Haven, Nolton Haven, Poppit Sands (W), and Westdale.

Downgraded beaches were: Aber Mawr Bay, Goodwick Sands, Porthselau, and St Brides Haven

NOTE: The beaches are categorised as Failing if they fail the EC statutory minimum, Basic Pass if they pass it, Guideline if their water quality is good. The cleanest beaches, where the water quality is high and there is good sewage treatment.are classed by the MSC as Recommended.

Blue Flag Awards

In 2010, Blue Flag awards went to thirteen Pembrokeshire beaches.

The Blue Flag scheme works towards sustainable development at beaches/marinas through strict criteria dealing with water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management, and safety and other services.
